Riot in your head
It's a bit different than the other FL tracks, but I don't think it's completely opposite style wise.
Somehow I feel this could be made into a 10 minute epos, but not sure if it has enough for that.
Well, I decided to post as is - work in progress - see in the Gmail.
Post your thoughts on it.
Based on feedback, I will work more on it this week...
TEMPO: 157
KEY: D

Re: Riot in your head
Thanks for the tempo & key !!!!
I listened to it twice ... here are my comments ...
00'00"-00'25": I must admit I don't like that riff ... it lacks substance ... it is just a chain of notes but there isn't much happening in there
00'25-00'37": Then ... spark! ... very cool ... headbanging part
00'37-01'01": Even cooler that guitar on the right that brings air & freshness. This is for me typical Free Launch guitar style ...
1'01"-1'50": Great melody, great harmonics ... a lot of place for the vocals ... the synth in the back holds everything up! 01'25" Different way of playin ... Lovin' it all! Great part!
1'50"-2'14: The transition between the two is perfect ... very smooth ...
2'14-2'27': That opening riff that I still dont like but the 2 pedal base drum should be kept ...
2'32" Great stop and go effect ...
3'03" That decay effect ... is just awesome ... it works so well with what is happening on the second layer (that straight forward guitar) ... The effects you are using make that song stand out ... It really brings a very creative and professional touch to it ... 2 THUMBS UP!!!
3'40" Again that riff that I don't like ...
Anyway ... I already tried something vocally ... I believe It might be interesting ... I will post it later ...

Re: Riot in your head
Wow, thanks for the nice feedback.
The idea with the 00-:25 was to have a "bang" opening, but maybe the riff needs something else, I'll try some stuff.
On the :37-1:01 part I think the second guitar needs a less clean sound, it bites a bit with the heavy riff below.
2:32 stop and go is very Metallica inspired, I hope it doesn't show too obviously
Can't wait to hear some vocals on it. Also let me know if you need one part longer/shorter to accomodate with your phrasing ideas.
Got some meetings with the outplacement agency today and need to prepare quite a bit, so hopefuly some more time to work on it tonight/tomorrow, before I go to DE.

Re: Riot in your head
I've listened to it very quickly (i'm at the office). Great job. This piece is the most convicing one. I like the guitars that give a progressive feel however they are quite simple chords. I suggest the vocals would be placed very low. This song makes me think a little bit to Deathstars or to some king of after punk stuff. Very interresting!!

Cool, great you like it.
Now I'm gonna listen to Deathstars, are they in itunes?
What do you think about the idea to add a guitar lead/harmony part? Maybe it could be too much or it would really add something?

Well ... I haven't noticed ... It's not obvious ... at least to me.
About the length ... don't worry about that right now ... I can still make a rough edit to give an idea ...
I found something for the 1'01" to 2'14" part ... It's very much improvised but there is something ...
Now lets wait for the others' comments ...

For me, it's in the same way. I really like the part at 1'00 and 3'05 to the end. A lot of place to put the vocals.
The riff at the beginning is a bit "abrupte et agressif par rapport au reste du morceau".
Good job, Chris

Great you like it, too!
Hey did you hear that I even played bass on some parts? Not with the fingers though, pick in guitarist style .
Bass is very different from guitar after all - I'd love to be able to invent bass lines like Flea or Guy Berryman, but I am very, very far from that, so my bass is always gonna be boring chords following just the guitar. Would be great if you could work out something more avantgarde runs in the calmer sections.

Maybe it doesn't mean a lot to you but my"wife" likes it too. She said it's very "Free Launchish" ... and she also likes my vocal melody ... but there, she has to!

Re: Riot in your head
Very good work, Chris !
I like all (and the into guitar too) and I love the clean chorused guitar and the fx at 3'03" (what is it ?).
Very rich sound and variations.
Not enough Free Launchish ?
Because there is no synth, no Phil voice, that's all !...

Thanks dude. Yeah, regarding synth and voice, to make it easier, I'll do some more work on it tomorrow and also share single tracks, so you guys can import multi track in your sequencers and have a go.
The "Effect" is just 5 or 6 super short and super close midi notes (like 256th notes or so, makes it sound like an old door opening - an old trick from my techno days
I also had recorded some filter sweeps (TB-303 like tones) but they got lost at the export, will redo ...

Pas mal du tout. On a l'impression d'entendre la voix de Kahn (de Kamelott ;-)
